Rosalind Ventris
Violist, Rosalind Ventris, is emerging as one of the most promising young artists of her generation. She has given recitals at the Slovak Philharmonic, Het Concertgebouw Kleine Zaal, Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Purcell Room, Bridgewater Hall, the Banff Centre, and Aldeburgh Festival. Since making her concerto debut at St. John’s Smith Square in 2007, she has performed Berlioz’s Harold in Italy, Bruch’s Double Concerto and viola concerti by York Bowen, Walton, Bartok and Telemann. She appeared with the EUCO at the Emilia Romagna Festival performing Hindemith’s Trauermusik, and with Tasmin Little in Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in the UK . Rosalind’s interest in contemporary music has led to a number of world premieres: including Edwin Roxburgh’s Sonata for Viola and Piano (Purcell Room, 2011). She will premiere a new work for clarinet, viola, and piano by Rory Boyle in 2016.
A keen chamber musician, Rosalind performed at the Salzburg Festival with IMS Prussia Cove in a quintet led by Gerhard Schultz in 2012, and the 2013 IMS Tour. Rosalind is a member of Trio Anima, and has also collaborated with the Aronowitz Ensemble, Benedetti-Grynuk-Elschenbroich Trio, and the Dante and Endellion Quartets. She was invited by Tabea Zimmermann to play in a Viola Day at the Wigmore Hall with Tabea Zimmermann, Garth Knox and Thomas Hoppe in November 2014. She was subsequently invited to perform at Tabea Zimmerman’s festival at the Beethovenhaus in Bonn in January of this year with the Arcanto Quartett. Forthcoming performances include Bruch’s Double Concerto and Romance in South Korea. Rosalind studied at Cambridge University, and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (as a postgraduate and Fellow), with David Takeno, and currently studies with Kim Kashkashian at the New England Conservatory.
Rosalind has been a prizewinner at many competitions, including the Lionel Tertis Competition (2006, 2013.)
